Twenty years after the HL-791, Ikegami introduced one of the industry’s first broadcast cameras with CMOS sensors as an alternative to the then-mainstream CCD imagers. Through improvements in FPN, sensitivity, and overall image quality, the HDK-79EC delivered practical performance and supported both 1080i and 720p formats, with wide use mainly in North America.
Today, roughly another twenty years on, CMOS sensors have become the de facto standard in virtually all digital cameras - from smartphones to cinema systems.
The expertise Ikegami has built since the HDK-79EC continues to shape our current developments, including the UHK-X700 4K broadcast camera.
